Honestly, you have to be ready for Real Thai food when coming here. My favorite is their Curries. The kitchen is awesome and the restaurant feels very homey. It's as if you're walking into a Thai families kitchen for some home made goodness. Spicy, rich, fresh dishes that you can literally eat daily. I think it's time for me to try everything on the menu. I've covered about 7 and all of the Curries are 7 stars the rest get a 5 star vote. That alone shows how amazing this small business' food truly is.
This place is authentic and delicious on so many levels! Honestly, you have to be ready for Real Thai food when coming here. The price was great. The food was edible (we enjoyed one of our three items ordered). We received our food via delivery. Not sure if eating in would have been a different experience. The scale for heat was incredibly inconsistent. We asked for all of our items to be 2/5 on the heat scale. I'm generally able to handle medium heat at Thai restaurants and usually use that as my default. The Tom Kha was so spicy that my nose was watering. The Yellow curry wasn't hot AT ALL and the friend rice was spicier than I would have liked, but not too bad. My biggest disappointment was the Tom Kha. I have been looking for quality Tom Kha soup was over a year now. When I order Tom Kha, I'm looking for that creamy, sweet, salty, sour, spicy combination that is awesome. Generally the soup is pretty simplistic with chicken, onion and mushrooms. I have, on occasion, seen tomatoes. This soup was watery, pretty flavorless and full of cabbage. I did not see or taste any of the three key ingredients (galangal root, kefir lime leaf or lemon grass). The fried rice was alright. Not especially great. Not especially bad. More spicy than I would have enjoyed. Ultimately, the three stars was awarded for the yellow curry. While it wasn't the best yellow curry I've had, it was pretty good. Great consistency. It included chicken, potatoes, onions and carrots, which seem to be the usual. There was an extra veggie that might have been eggplant.
I’m willing to update this review if I try additional items on the menu. The price was great. We ate here on a Friday night, and the restaurant was actually fairly empty. It seemed like there were more customers ordering takeout than dining in. I had heard consistently good things about Lotus Thai from several friends, some of whom said that this place is their favorite Thai restaurant in Seattle. Given how many stellar Thai restaurants we're lucky enough to have in this city, that's quite the compliment! We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, tofu Pad Thai, and Massaman curry. The spring rolls (actually egg rolls) were pretty tasty, but the Pad Thai was just okay. Yes, I totally get that Pad Thai is kind of a cop-out thing to order, but it's such a staple that it's become my litmus test when trying a Thai place for the first time. The sauce was flavorful, but I felt like there was just too much of it which ended up making the noodles too soft and mushy. The Massman curry, however, was delicious and extremely tasty. It was my favorite thing that we ordered. We ordered everything 3 stars, which ended up being appropriately spicy and delicious. Service was stellar and very friendly. This is mainly what makes me want to come back! If I'm in the area, I would love to try other items on the menu since this place has such great reviews overall. Based on my experience, though, the food didn't stand out enough for me to go out of my way to come here if I weren't already in the Central District or close by for some other reason.
Completely willing to update this review when I’m able to try additional items on the menu. I'm usually disappointed at other thai places when I ask for the highest amount of spice and they tone it down. But this place really delivers. All of the noodles & rice dishes I've tried there have been excellent, with sizable portions for what you pay. Also very friendly staff.
I love that when you ask for really spicy food, they give it to you. If I go to another Thai place, I repeatedly find myself thinking it's more expensive and less delicious than Lotus. Lotus is run by a small family that makes simple, but packed-with-flavor dishes. Standard menu with all the favorite Thai dishes, my favorite is the drunken noodles. The prices are great at about $8-9 an entree. You won't be disappointed!
Best Thai I’ve ever had. The ocean fried rice is stupidly good!!! I wish I could eat it every day. Garlic chicken is garlicky delicious! Every entree dish comes with rice on the plate. So kind of like having a "lunch" combo. I'm sure if you wanted to do family style you can ask for rice on a different plate or on the side.
The food is sooooo good here! The ocean fried rice is stupidly good!!! I just love the flavor and it's nice and cheap. I have only had take away, but they're always friendly when I stop in. The pumpkin curry has become my favorite! The only negative is their spice chart is not quite right... somedays a 3 out of 5 is perfect, and others it's way too spicy. You never know what you will get as far as spice. Not worth deducting a star for that, it's good to have a challenge now and then :)
I’m lucky this place is just a quick drive from us! I just love the flavor and it’s nice and cheap. 17645 review-eaten-food-oooh-say-8 eaten-food-oooh-say-8 http://www.lotusthaicuisine.feedback/review-eaten-food-oooh-say-8 4565 10 10 10 0 0 0 I've eaten food from here.. Oooh say about 8 times now and 3 of those times were takeout. First and foremost this place is my favorite Thai place. EVER. Really I personally just love the atmosphere, the staff is nice and they remember you, the menu is big (and it's inside old vinyl covers!) and they will accommodate your requests for extras and fine tuning -- at least with my experiences. But I do want to say that 2 of those 3 takeout orders weren't perfect like the times I ate there in-house. 1. The first instance I ordered chicken drunken noodles (ya I know, it's as American as it gets but mind you this was the first time I ordered it from here because the rest of the menu is awesome) and I brought it home and opened it to chicken AND tofu. Now, not a big deal I know; extra food blah blah blah. But what if I had ordered tofu and I got chicken too? What if I was a vegetarian/vegan? So this one isn't really a big deal but something to point out. I ate all of it with a huge smile. 2. The second time there were four of us and we all ordered something different. I ordered mine with 4 out of 5 spiciness like I always do and my friend did the same. When I brought it home I was very happy to see all the containers marked according to their contents and spice level. I began to eat my 4/5 spicy food and noticed that there wasn't a single trace of spiciness whatsoever. Not even a pepper flake in all of its red glory to bat my lashes at. Meanwhile my other friend who also ordered a 4/5 spiciness was sweating from his, what had to be 7/5 spiciness. I know because I tried it thinking he just couldn't handle 4. I'm telling you, it was above 5. The whole thing really wasn't a big deal to either of us-- we still ate our food with a smile (and him sweating, sniffing, and swearing) but the point being that I know they got my order correctly because of the containers being marked but somehow they just forgot to add the spice to my food? OTHERWISE- both small negatives aside -- the food is still amazing and I'll still be going back for more. I just wanted to point it out to some that sometimes you may see an anomaly like this. I suppose that's life, right? Can't always be perfect but food can usually be delicious. I can also tell you as some supplemental information- this place gets BUSY and it's for a reason; the food is spot on and great. Perhaps that's why my order was slightly mixed up those two times.... If you go in with the 2 out of 8 times (1/4 for you math heads) they might get something wrong attitude, you're in for a real treat. But if you're going in with a turtle neck and a pompous critic self-entitled attitude, you should just keep walking on by. We don't want you in there and you might get your turtleneck dirty. Maybe filthy. Anyway, tell them I sent you and get ready to smile ear to ear at the deliciousness :)
I’ve eaten food from here.. Oooh say about 8 times now and 3 of those times were takeout. I’ve eaten food from here.. Oooh say about 8 times now and 3 of those times were takeout. First and foremost this place is my favorite Thai place. EVER. Really I personally just love the atmosphere, the staff is nice and they remember you, the menu is big (and it’s inside old vinyl covers!) and they will accommodate your requests for extras and fine tuning – at least with my experiences. But I do want to say that 2 of those 3 takeout orders weren’t perfect like the times I ate there in-house. 1. The first instance I ordered chicken drunken noodles (ya I know, it’s as American as it gets but mind you this was the first time I ordered it from here because the rest of the menu is awesome) and I brought it home and opened it to chicken AND tofu. Now, not a big deal I know; extra food blah blah blah. But what if I had ordered tofu and I got chicken too? What if I was a vegetarian/vegan? So this one isn’t really a big deal but something to point out. I ate all of it with a huge smile. 2. The second time there were four of us and we all ordered something different. I ordered mine with 4 out of 5 spiciness like I always do and my friend did the same. When I brought it home I was very happy to see all the containers marked according to their contents and spice level. I began to eat my 4/5 spicy food and noticed that there wasn’t a single trace of spiciness whatsoever. Not even a pepper flake in all of its red glory to bat my lashes at. Meanwhile my other friend who also ordered a 4/5 spiciness was sweating from his, what had to be 7/5 spiciness. I know because I tried it thinking he just couldn’t handle 4. I’m telling you, it was above 5. The whole thing really wasn’t a big deal to either of us– we still ate our food with a smile (and him sweating, sniffing, and swearing) but the point being that I know they got my order correctly because of the containers being marked but somehow they just forgot to add the spice to my food? OTHERWISE- both small negatives aside – the food is still amazing and I’ll still be going back for more. I just wanted to point it out to some that sometimes you may see an anomaly like this. I suppose that’s life, right? Can’t always be perfect but food can usually be delicious. I can also tell you as some supplemental information- this place gets BUSY and it’s for a reason; the food is spot on and great. Perhaps that’s why my order was slightly mixed up those two times…. If you go in with the 2 out of 8 times (1/4 for you math heads) they might get something wrong attitude, you’re in for a real treat. But if you’re going in with a turtle neck and a pompous critic self-entitled attitude, you should just keep walking on by. We don’t want you in there and you might get your turtleneck dirty. Maybe filthy. Anyway, tell them I sent you and get ready to smile ear to ear at the deliciousness :)

This is my family's favorite go-to spot. They're super quick for carry out, and also a warm spot to eat in the winter. I don't recommend trying to eat in during the hot summer days - no AC, so you will sweat even before your first bite of heavenly spicy food. I'm a curry guy, and I'm a fan of each one. It's hard for me to not order the green curry each time because it's so good and balanced (chicken, 4 spicy, add bamboo shoots). The meats are always done right - not overcooked like many other places. My wife almost always gets the fried rice (veggie, 4 spicy, add chicken). Might sound lame, but it's really good and worth it. Healthy portion as well. Parking is easy on the street. The interior isn't particularly nice, but it's not shabby either. If you carry out, be sure to ask for napkins and utensils.
Such yum. Great food in a small restaurant. One of the few that has survived the gentrification of central Seattle. I ordered my food with 3 stars and it was too spicy for me, next time 1 star will be enough. The service was great and we really enjoyed our time there. Not for you if you are looking for fancy overpriced Thai restaurant. It is clean and there is not air conditioner. I'm planning to visit again soon!
Love it! Great food in a small restaurant. One of the few that has survived the gentrification of central Seattle. 17641 review-white-ask-5-starts-thai white-ask-5-starts-thai http://www.lotusthaicuisine.feedback/review-white-ask-5-starts-thai 10 10 10 0 0 0 i am white, and when i ask for 5 starts at any thai place, every place i've been to so far will give me food that's not as spicy. Mostly cause they think white people cant take "real thai 5 star spicy." Luckily, this place is different. They actually gave me really spicy Phad See Ew! it was so good, but so filling i needed a box. and i'm 6'8", i eat like a garbage disposal. Thats really rare of me to need a box. I will definitely be coming back, this place is the real deal. I just moved to the area and this was my first try for a restaurant. I'm very happy with the turnout.
i am white, and when i ask for 5 starts at any thai place, every place i’ve been to so far will give me food that’s not as spicy. We love the chicken pad thai...one of the best I've had! Keep in mind that the spice scale is HIGH. My friend ordered something with three stars and literally couldn't finish it because it was so spicy!
